This forklift train the trainer video is for the person who will be teaching and evaluating your forklift operators. In 18 minutes it covers the three building blocks of an effective forklift safety curriculum: forklift engineering principles, the basics of OSHA’s forklift operating rules under 29 CFR 1910.178, and equipment maintenance. Written materials are included so your instructor can add depth to the program. Available in English or Spanish.
Once your trainer is ready, our forklift operator training video kit gives them everything they need to train and certify the operators themselves: the full-length video, quiz, presenter’s guide and reusable completion certificates.
Who Can Train Forklift Operators?
OSHA does not certify forklift trainers. Under 1910.178(l)(2)(iii), operator training and evaluation must be conducted by someone with the knowledge, training and experience to train operators and judge their competence, and it is the employer who decides that person is qualified. This video is the training half of that requirement for an in-house instructor; the experience half comes from time on the equipment.

No. OSHA does not certify or license forklift trainers. 29 CFR 1910.178(l)(2)(iii) requires that operator training and evaluation be done by a person with the knowledge, training and experience to train operators and evaluate their competence. The employer decides who meets that bar and documents it.
An employee or contractor who knows the equipment your operators use, has been trained on OSHA’s operating rules, and has enough hands-on experience to evaluate an operator on the floor. A supervisor or lead operator with several years on the trucks is the usual choice. This video supplies the training part; it cannot supply the experience.
No. It trains your instructor. Operator certification is done by your employer under 1910.178(l)(6) after formal instruction, practical training and a workplace evaluation, which is what our forklift operator training kit is built for.
