Electrical Safety Training Questions
Are these electrical safety videos free?
Yes – all videos stream free with no email required. Only the downloadable toolbox talk and practice test, and the paid kit, are gated.
Does a free video make someone a “qualified person”?
No. Under OSHA 1910.332/.333 and NFPA 70E a qualified person has been trained and has demonstrated the skills and knowledge to work safely on or near energized parts. These videos build awareness; becoming qualified requires hands-on training and demonstrated competency.
What is the difference between electrical safety and NFPA 70E?
OSHA 1910 Subpart S is the regulation; NFPA 70E is the consensus standard that spells out how to do the shock and arc-flash risk assessment and select PPE. OSHA enforces the outcome; NFPA 70E is the recognized method for getting there.
Is 120 volts really dangerous?
Yes. It is current through the body, not just voltage, that injures – and currents well under one amp can stop the heart. Even 120/208-volt systems are potentially fatal, and arc flash can occur at low voltage too.
What does “verify zero energy” mean?
After de-energizing and locking out, a qualified person confirms the circuit is dead using a properly rated tester with the live-dead-live method: test a known live source, test the circuit (it must read dead), then re-test the known source to prove the tester still works.
