Does a free video meet OSHA’s confined space training requirement?
No. OSHA 1910.146 requires role-based training for entrants, attendants, and supervisors, plus a written permit program, atmospheric testing, and rescue arrangements. These videos build awareness; the kit provides documented, repeatable training.
What makes a confined space “permit-required”?
A confined space is large enough to enter, has limited entry and exit, and isn’t designed for continuous occupancy. It becomes permit-required when it also has a serious hazard – a hazardous atmosphere, an engulfment hazard, an entrapment configuration, or another recognized serious hazard.
In what order do you test the atmosphere?
Oxygen first, then flammables, then toxics – and you keep monitoring during entry because conditions can change. Oxygen comes first partly because the meter needs enough oxygen to read correctly, and because too little or too much oxygen is itself deadly.
Why does the attendant never enter to rescue a coworker?
Most confined-space fatalities include would-be rescuers who rushed in. The attendant stays outside, monitors, and calls the arranged rescue. Rescue should be non-entry (retrieval) where possible; entry rescue is only for trained, properly equipped rescuers.
